If you fail in paying the premium the policy may lapse or you may have to pay a fine for default.

In the event of a mishap you have to inform the insurer immediately. A survey may be conducted and based on the reports of the survey you will get the insurance money. This money can be utilized to repair the damages to the vehicle and to the injured persons. There are certain rules which decide whether the full amount is to be paid or the payment is to be made in installments or paid in part. This is decided when you buy the auto insurance as it is written in the contract.

There are many companies which deal with insurance. You can find them online or through the yellow pages. In most cases auto insurance is bought when the vehicle is bought. You must have auto insurance otherwise you can be held by the traffic police for not having it.
